Clinical Trials & CROs

Protocols drafted
to be runnable.

A protocol is read by ethics committees, regulators, sites and statisticians, and each finds something different wrong with it. Drafting to a structured template and testing it against reality first is where amendments are avoided.

What it is

AI clinical trial protocol drafting turns a sponsor’s synopsis, prior protocols and the published evidence into a first draft structured to the ICH M11 clinical electronic structured harmonised protocol (CeSHarP) template, with each section linked to its sources. The medical lead, statistician and regulatory lead edit and approve every section. The system writes the first version, not the final one.

Structure matters beyond tidiness. A protocol held as structured content can be checked against itself: the schedule of activities against the endpoints, the eligibility criteria against the population the objectives describe. It also feeds downstream documents, such as the informed consent form and the CTIS submission, without retyping.

What it handles

01

First drafts to M11

Sections drafted from your synopsis and prior protocols in the structured template, with language reused from approved protocols where you want consistency.
02

Eligibility realism

Criteria compared with those of similar registered trials on ClinicalTrials.gov and the EU CTIS, and unusually restrictive ones flagged for the medical lead to reconsider.
03

Internal consistency

Every endpoint has an assessment in the schedule, every assessment has a reason, and visit windows agree across sections. Mismatches are raised, not silently fixed.
04

Not: the scientific design

The system does not choose endpoints, doses, comparators or sample sizes. Those decisions belong to the sponsor’s medical and statistical leads, who sign the protocol.

Questions

Questions about Trial Protocol Drafting.

Can AI write a clinical trial protocol?

It can write a solid first draft from a synopsis and your prior protocols, and check it for consistency, which removes much of the assembly. It cannot own the scientific design or the ethics of the study. The sponsor’s medical, statistical and regulatory leads decide the content and sign the protocol, and the draft is built to make their review fast.

What is ICH M11?

ICH M11 is the harmonised guideline for a clinical electronic structured harmonised protocol, known as CeSHarP. It defines a common template and a technical specification so protocol content can be exchanged and reused as structured data. Drafting to it from the start makes downstream reuse, such as registry entries and consent forms, much easier.

Can AI reduce protocol amendments?

It can reduce the avoidable ones: internal inconsistencies, schedules that do not support the endpoints, and eligibility criteria far stricter than comparable trials. It cannot prevent amendments driven by new safety information or changed strategy. We measure the effect against your own amendment history rather than quoting a general figure.
