Wine & Spirits

Wine club marketing
in your own voice.

AI for winery direct-to-consumer marketing segments the customer list from real purchases, drafts wine club, release and follow-up emails in the winery's voice, and checks each one against the alcohol marketing rules of the market it goes to.

Where direct sales stall

Direct-to-consumer sales, through the cellar door, the wine club and the online shop, are usually a winery's best margin. They are also the channel that needs the most marketing work: release announcements, club shipment notes, follow-up after a visit, win-back emails for members who have gone quiet. In a small winery, that work falls to whoever has a free evening.

Generic AI writing tools can produce the emails, but they sound like everyone else's, they do not know who bought what, and they know nothing about alcohol marketing rules. We build the marketing assistant around the winery's own sales platform (Commerce7, WineDirect, Shopify or similar) and its own voice, with the rules for each market built in.

What it does, and what it refuses

01

Segments from real purchases

Club members, first-time visitors, lapsed buyers and collectors of a particular wine, built from order history, not guesswork.
02

Drafts in the winery's voice

Release notes, club shipment letters, post-visit follow-ups and win-back emails, trained on the winery's own past writing and tasting notes.
03

Checks the rules per market

Age-gating, consent under GDPR and ePrivacy, national advertising limits such as France's Loi Évin, and US state shipping rules for direct sales.
04

Not: health claims or minors

The assistant will not write health claims, will not target anyone without verified age and consent, and will not send without a person approving the campaign.

How we validate it

The voice is tested blind: the winemaker or owner reads a mix of past emails and new drafts and marks which ones sound like the winery. The rules are tested with deliberately awkward drafts, such as a health benefit slipped into a tasting note or a promotion aimed at a market where it is not allowed, and the assistant must catch every one.

Once live, results are measured on the winery's own list: open and order rates by segment, club retention, unsubscribe rates. We do not quote expected uplift in advance, because it depends on the list, the wines and the season.

Questions

Questions about Direct-to-Consumer Marketing.

How do you market a wine club?

By treating members as people with a buying history rather than one list: welcome new members properly, tell them what is in each shipment and why, invite them to releases and events first, and notice when someone goes quiet before they cancel. Personal, regular and specific communication matters more than discounts. AI helps by doing the segmentation and the first drafts.

Can AI write wine marketing that sounds like us?

Yes, if it learns from the winery's own writing: past newsletters, tasting notes, the winemaker's descriptions. We test the result blind with the people who know the winery best, and keep a person approving every campaign. A model with no examples will produce generic wine copy, which customers recognise.

What rules apply to online wine marketing?

It depends on the market. Age verification and consent for marketing email apply widely, under GDPR and ePrivacy in the EU. Some countries restrict alcohol advertising content and channels, France's Loi Évin being the best known. In the US, direct shipping is regulated state by state. We encode the rules for the markets a winery sells into; the legal determination is the winery's.
