RFIs and submittals,
with the clause attached.

Most RFIs ask something the documents already answer, and most rejected submittals break a clause someone could have found. Finding that clause, fast and with its revision, is the whole job.

The real shape of the problem

AI submittal review means checking each product data sheet, shop drawing or sample submission against the relevant specification sections and drawings before it goes to the design team, and AI RFI drafting means preparing each request for information with the clauses and drawing references that bear on it already attached.

On a large project the specification runs to thousands of pages across many sections and revisions, and the submittal log to hundreds of items. A project engineer checking a submittal has to find every clause that applies, including ones in general sections that are easy to forget. A design team answering an RFI often points back to a clause the contractor could not find. Both waste days in a review cycle that the programme cannot spare.

So the system indexes the current specification, drawings and addenda for the project, with revisions tracked, and works inside Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud or Aconex where the logs already live.

What it handles

01

Submittal pre-check

Each submission compared with its specification section and the general requirements, with every clause it meets, misses or cannot be checked against listed and quoted.
02

RFI drafting

A question drafted from the site issue, with the relevant clauses and drawing references attached, and any existing answer in the documents shown first.
03

Submittal register

The specification read for required submittals, so the register is built from the documents rather than from memory, and nothing required is left off.
04

Not: the approval

Accepting a submittal or answering an RFI is a design decision for the architect or engineer of record. The system prepares the review; it does not stamp it.

How we validate it

We use closed submittals and RFIs from a past project, where the design team’s decision is known. The pre-check is judged on whether it raises the clauses behind every rejection, and the RFI drafting on whether it finds the answers that already existed in the documents. Missed clauses are the measure that matters; an extra flagged clause costs an engineer a moment.

Revisions are the common failure. An answer drawn from a superseded drawing is worse than no answer, so every citation carries its revision, and the index is updated as addenda and new issues arrive in the common data environment. For the design side, a model checked at issue raises fewer questions on site: see BIM quality checks.

Questions

Questions about RFIs & Submittals.

Can AI review construction submittals?

It can pre-check them: find the specification clauses that apply, compare the submission with each, and list what it meets, misses or cannot be checked against. That makes the human review faster and more complete. Accepting or rejecting the submittal remains the decision of the architect or engineer of record, who carries the professional responsibility.

How does AI help with RFIs in construction?

It searches the current specification, drawings and addenda for anything that already answers the question, and drafts the RFI with the relevant clauses and references attached when nothing does. Fewer RFIs are raised for questions the documents answer, and those that are raised are clearer, which shortens the design team response.

Does it work inside Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud?

Yes. Both expose RFIs, submittals and documents through their APIs, and so does Aconex. We read the logs and documents there and write drafts and findings back, so the project team keeps its normal workflow and the record of who decided what stays in the platform you already audit.
