Telecoms

A NOC that reads
the alarm storm.

When a fibre is cut, the NOC sees thousands of alarms and one cause. An AI NOC assistant correlates them against topology, proposes the likely cause with its evidence, and drafts the ticket. The engineer decides.

The problem

Network operations is a correlation problem. A transport link fails and every site behind it reports loss of signal; a power outage takes down a cabinet and the alarms cascade through RAN, backhaul and core. Rule-based correlation in the fault manager catches some of it, but rules drift out of date as the network changes, and the hardest incidents are the ones nobody wrote a rule for.

AIOps in telecom works when it has topology. Alarms correlated by time alone produce clusters; alarms correlated against the inventory of what connects to what produce a cause. So the first piece of work is always the network inventory and its quality, and we say so before anyone promises a model.

What it does and what it does not

01

Correlation against topology

Alarms grouped by the physical and logical paths in your inventory, so one probable cause is presented with the consequences beneath it, not a flat list of thousands.
02

Probable cause with evidence

A ranked hypothesis, each with the alarms, performance counters and recent changes that support it, and what would rule it out.
03

Runbooks and drafted tickets

The relevant procedure retrieved from your runbooks and vendor documentation, and an incident ticket drafted in ServiceNow or your ticketing tool with affected services and customers.
04

Not: unapproved changes

The system can draft a method of procedure. It does not execute configuration changes on the live network; those go through your change process with an engineer approving.

How we validate it

We replay incidents you have already resolved, with their real alarm streams, and compare the system’s probable cause and timing with what your engineers found. That gives a measured answer on your network, including the incidents where the cause was unusual, before anything goes live. In production, every hypothesis the engineer rejects is logged with the reason and used to improve the next one.

Questions

Questions about Network Operations.

What is an AI NOC?

An AI NOC is a network operations centre where models help engineers handle alarms and incidents: correlating alarm floods to a probable cause, retrieving the right runbook, drafting tickets and summarising what changed. In the version we build, engineers remain in charge, and any change to the live network goes through the normal change process with approval.

What is AIOps in telecom?

AIOps applies machine learning and, increasingly, language models to operations data: alarms, logs, performance counters and tickets. In telecom the value comes from correlating events across network layers using topology, detecting anomalies before customers notice, and cutting the time to diagnosis. Its quality depends heavily on the accuracy of the network inventory.

Does it replace our fault management system?

No. It sits beside it, reading alarms from your existing fault and performance management and writing tickets into your existing ticketing tool. Replacing those systems is a much larger programme and is rarely what limits diagnosis speed.
