Mining AI,
signed by a competent person.

In context

AI in mining means applying models to exploration data, operations and compliance in mineral extraction (not cryptocurrency or data mining). We build the document and data layer: geological reports, inspection records and permits, each value cited and each determination left to a qualified person.

Where it breaks today

01

Decades of reports, unread

A tenement comes with historical exploration reports, open-file government data and drill logs from several previous owners, in different formats and coordinate systems. Most of it is never fully read again.
02

Inspections pile up as paper

Pre-shift examinations, ground control checks and equipment inspections generate records and photos every day. Patterns across them, the same hazard recurring in one area, are hard to see.
03

Permits outlive the people

An environmental permit carries hundreds of conditions and commitments made years earlier. Tracking them through construction, operation and closure is a long, unforgiving document problem.
OUR APPROACH

AI for mining companies, with the signature kept

Mining already runs serious machine learning: autonomous haulage, process control, predictive maintenance on fixed and mobile plant. Those are major programmes with equipment manufacturers. We work on a less crowded layer, the documents and records that exploration, safety and permitting depend on, where language and vision models are newly useful.

Mining has a well-developed idea of accountability that we build around. Public reporting of exploration results and mineral resources under the JORC Code, NI 43-101, S-K 1300 or PERC rests on a named Competent or Qualified Person. Workplace examinations are made by a competent examiner. Environmental assessments are signed by specialists. The system extracts, cross-checks and drafts; it never produces a resource estimate, clears a working area or concludes on an environmental effect.

HOW IT DEPLOYS
PHASE 01

Inventory the record

What exists: reports, drill databases, inspection forms, permits. In what formats, coordinate systems and systems, such as acQuire, Leapfrog, Datamine or Deswik.
PHASE 02

Extract with citations

Values extracted into structured tables, each linked to its page, with QA/QC issues and conflicts listed rather than resolved silently.
PHASE 03

Review by the accountable person

The geologist, examiner or specialist reviews exceptions and signs. The system keeps the trail from every figure to its source.

What we build

01

Geological Report Synthesis

Historical reports and drill logs turned into a cited, structured database of collars, intervals and assays, with QA/QC gaps flagged for the geologist.

SEE GEOLOGICAL REPORTS →
02

Safety Inspection Support

Inspection records and photos analysed for hazards and recurring patterns, with findings routed to the responsible person and nothing ever marked safe by the system.

SEE SAFETY INSPECTION →
03

Environmental Permitting

Environmental impact assessments, consultation responses and permit conditions read, cross-checked and carried into a commitments register for the life of the mine.

SEE ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING →
04

Maintenance and Asset Records

Work orders, inspection reports and manufacturer manuals searchable together, supporting the predictive maintenance models your reliability engineers run.

Controls we implement

CITATION ON EVERY EXTRACTED VALUE NO ESTIMATES OR CLEARANCES BY THE MODEL NO TRAINING ON YOUR DATA OFFLINE-CAPABLE AT SITE NAMED SIGN-OFF ON EVERY OUTPUT AUDIT LOG ON EVERY CHANGE

These are engineering controls we build into the architecture, not certifications. QQuantum.ai holds no security certifications, and the audits and attestations your sector requires remain yours to run — see our trust centre.

Questions

Questions about Mining & Resources.

How is AI used in the mining industry?

In exploration, models combine geological, geochemical, geophysical and satellite data to help target drilling. In operations, autonomous haulage and drilling, process optimisation and predictive maintenance are established. Increasingly, language and vision models read the reports, inspection records and permits the industry produces. Across all of them, qualified people stay accountable for estimates, safety decisions and compliance.

What is AI mining?

The phrase is used for two unrelated things. In the resources industry it means applying artificial intelligence to mineral exploration and extraction. Online it is also used for automated cryptocurrency mining, and sometimes confused with data mining. This page is about the first: AI for exploration companies and mine operators.

Can AI produce a mineral resource estimate?

Not one that can be publicly reported. Under the JORC Code, NI 43-101, S-K 1300 and similar codes, exploration results and resource estimates are the responsibility of a named Competent or Qualified Person. AI can organise the data they work from and check it for gaps and inconsistencies. The estimate, and the judgement behind it, remain theirs.

Can it work at a remote site with poor connectivity?

Yes, where needed. Inspection and document systems can run on local hardware at site and synchronise when a connection is available, and models can be sized to run without a cloud connection. We decide this per workflow, because exploration report synthesis rarely needs it and underground inspection support often does.

Which mining software do you integrate with?

Common targets are geological databases such as acQuire, modelling tools such as Leapfrog, Datamine, Deswik and Vulcan for data exchange, maintenance systems such as SAP PM, and the document and permit stores you already use. We exchange data in the formats those tools accept rather than replacing them.
