Wine AI,
from vine to label.

The paperwork, the club, the vineyard.

In context

AI in the wine industry is most practical in three places: checking labels and export documents against each market's rules, running direct-to-consumer and wine club marketing, and spotting disease and stress in the vineyard from imagery. The winemaker, the compliance lead and the agronomist still decide.

Where it breaks today

01

Every market has its own label

The EU now asks for ingredients and a nutrition declaration on wine, the US needs a TTB label approval, and each export market adds its own rules. One wine can need several label versions, each checked by hand.
02

Direct sales need a marketing team

Cellar door, wine club and online shop are where the margin is, but a family winery rarely has someone to segment the list, write the emails and follow up after a visit.
03

Disease moves faster than the walk

Mildew and botrytis can spread between two walks of the same block. Scouting every row by eye is slow, and the blocks furthest from the winery are seen last.
OUR APPROACH

Small producers, large rulebooks

Much of the writing about AI in wine is about winemaking: fermentation sensors, blend prediction, electronic noses. Those are real, and mostly the work of specialist equipment makers. The problems we see more often in small and mid-size wineries and distilleries are administrative and commercial: the rulebook for each market, the marketing nobody has time for, and the vineyard that is larger than the team.

We build narrow systems for those, each with a clear owner. A label checker that compares artwork and technical sheets against the rules for each destination and lists what does not match, for the compliance lead to resolve. A marketing assistant that drafts in the winery's voice, inside the alcohol advertising rules of each market. An imagery pipeline that flags rows worth walking, for the agronomist to inspect. None of them signs a label, ships a pallet or sprays a vine.

HOW IT DEPLOYS
PHASE 01

Pick the costliest step

We look at where time or risk concentrates: label approvals before a shipment, the wine club calendar, or the scouting rota in a wet spring.
PHASE 02

Encode the rules and the voice

Market label rules, the winery's tone and claims policy, or the vineyard's block map and history, captured as data the system works from.
PHASE 03

Hand findings to the owner

Every output is a list for a person to act on: mismatches, drafts, rows to walk. Nothing is filed, sent or treated automatically.

What we build

01

Export & Label Compliance

Label artwork, technical sheets and export documents checked against each target market's rules, from EU e-labels to US TTB approvals, with every mismatch listed for the compliance lead.

02

Direct-to-Consumer Marketing

Wine club and online shop marketing drafted in the winery's voice, segmented from the customer list, and checked against age-gating and alcohol advertising rules per market.

SEE DTC MARKETING →
03

Vineyard Vision

Drone and tractor-mounted camera imagery analysed for vigour, water stress and signs of disease, mapped to blocks and rows, so the agronomist walks the right ones first.

04

Cellar and Trade Workflows

Orders from distributors and importers, stock and excise documents moved between the cellar system, the accounts and the shipping agent without retyping.

Controls we implement

RULES CITED FOR EVERY FINDING LABELS APPROVED BY A PERSON AGE-GATED MARKETING NO TRAINING ON YOUR DATA TREATMENT DECISIONS STAY WITH THE AGRONOMIST AUDIT LOG ON EVERY CHECK

These are engineering controls we build into the architecture, not certifications. QQuantum.ai holds no certifications, and label approval, export filings and compliance with each market's alcohol rules remain the producer's responsibility — see our trust centre.

Questions

Questions about Wine & Spirits.

How is AI used in the wine industry?

Across the chain. In the vineyard, imagery and sensors monitor vigour, water stress and disease, and models forecast yield and ripeness. In the cellar, sensors track fermentation and specialist tools predict blends. In the office, AI helps with label and export compliance, marketing and customer service. For most small and mid-size producers, the office and the vineyard are where a custom build pays back first.

How can AI help wineries sell more directly?

By doing the marketing work a small team has no time for: segmenting the customer list by what people buy and when, drafting wine club and release emails in the winery's voice, following up after cellar door visits, and answering routine questions about orders and shipping. It works from the winery's own sales platform, such as Commerce7, WineDirect or Shopify.

Can AI check wine labels for compliance?

It can compare label artwork and technical data against the encoded rules for each market and list what is missing or inconsistent, such as an absent allergen statement, an alcohol figure outside tolerance or a missing e-label link. It cannot approve a label. The producer, and in the US the TTB through the COLA process, decide whether a label is compliant.

Is AI used in winemaking itself?

Yes, mostly through specialist equipment and software: fermentation sensors that track temperature, sugar and pH, analytical tools that detect faults early, and blend prediction from chemical profiles. We do not build cellar instrumentation. Where a winery already collects that data, we can bring it together with vineyard and sales data for analysis.

Does this apply to spirits producers too?

Largely, yes. Spirits have their own labelling regime, Regulation (EU) 2019/787 in the EU and 27 CFR Part 5 in the US, and stricter rules on direct sales and advertising in many markets. The label checking and marketing systems work the same way with the spirits rules encoded; vineyard vision applies only where the producer grows its own fruit.
